R2 announces today that it has successfully completed the installation of the SIL2 rated EMOS® Safety System for electrochemical process monitoring of membrane technology electrolysers at the Skyonic Corporation’s facility in San Antonio, Texas, USA.
EMOS®‘s high fidelity cell voltage data acquisition system combined with its advanced engineering and data analysis tools are providing Skyonic unparalleled visibility and reliability for electrolyser process safety. Beyond the safety functions, EMOS® is providing advanced electrolyser condition monitoring for qualitative insight into the operational performance of critical components, resulting in a precise, proactive approach to electrolyser maintenance and scheduling.
R2’s EMOS® SIL2 Safety System, is the only electrolyser safety system available with a SIL2 rating. While monitoring over 60, 000 elements in plants around the world, R2 was able to conduct an extensive Hazop Study. This study concluded that in order to provide complete electrolyser protection with a very low possibility of failure, SIL2 is necessary.
The EMOS SIL2 Safety System includes everything required to provide a plant with the highest level of safety available on the market.
Skyonic Corporation has developed technology solutions for the capture and permanent sequestration of carbon dioxide (CO2) in mineral form (carbonates). Capitol SkyMine is Skyonic’s first commercial scale chlor-carbonate plant featuring our proprietary carbon capture and beneficial reuse technology. In addition to reducing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, the SkyMine® process is designed to remove acid gases such as sulfur oxides (SOx), nitrogen oxides (NOx), mercury and particulates, and produce chemicals including sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), hydrochloric acid and bleach, all of which can then be sold for profit.
The plant commenced operations in September 2015 and is located adjacent to the Capitol Aggregates coal-fired cement plant in San Antonio, Texas, USA. Founded in 2005 by CEO Joe Jones, Skyonic is a recognized leader in the field of CO2 capture technology. They have been granted 34 patents and have 120+ applications filed world-wide, were recipients of the 2014 Global 100 and North America 100 Red Herring awards and were listed as one of the top 100 companies in 2013 and 2014 by the Global Cleantech Group. The company is headquartered in Austin, Texas.
